My choir leading manifesto
Be fundamentally inclusive: everything is open to everyone, no auditions, no experience needed
Build singers’ skills: help singers to build their musicianship and grow their musical horizons
Stretch and reward singers: everything we do is in three, four (or more) part harmony and all a capella. Inclusivity does not have to mean basic!
Have a great time: if it’s not fun, and funny, as often as possible, we’re not doing it right
Build community: open access singing brings people together and grows the fabric of community in remarkable ways
Improve wellbeing: people know it, proper science shows it: singing is great for physical and mental health
GROOVE! Hozier, Beyoncé, Bill Withers and Aretha Franklin are just some of the artists my choirs have sung recently. Big bangers, big vibes, big fun.
